Dolby Surround Sound Now Available on New Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 Series

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. announced that Dolby® Surround technology has been incorporated in the new Samsung GALAXY Tab® 3 series 8- and 10.1-inch tablets. Dolby Surround dramatically enhances audio quality, delivering dynamic sound, crystal-clear dialogue, and consistent volume levels for users of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3. Already a standard in cinemas and home theater systems and an emerging standard for mobile devices, Dolby Surround provides the most engaging and lifelike mobile entertainment experience available.

“We are pleased to offer the latest Dolby innovations for tablets in the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 8-and 10.1-inch,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President, E-Media Business Group, Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby technologies expand the possibilities of mobile entertainment, allowing people to enjoy a richer audio experience on the go.”

Dolby Surround offers:

·         Crisp, clear dialogue: Dolby Surround technology accentuates the dialogue in movies and other media content, making it easier for the user to hear.

·         A more realistic, engaging experience: Dolby Surround technology ensures that diverse content plays over built-in speakers or headphones with more depth for a powerful, surround sound experience.

·         Volume consistency: Dolby’s volume-leveling technology maintains a consistent sound level across all content so the user does not need to readjust the volume for each new application.

·         Compatibility with home theater systems: A device with Dolby Surround easily connects to a home theater system for a surround sound experience on up to 7.1-channel speakers.

·         Custom tuning by Dolby engineers: Custom tuning minimizes mechanical and acoustic distortion for a more natural, balanced sound with more bass and treble.

Recent research conducted by Parks Associates in the United States, France, Germany, China, and South Korea concluded that sound quality is an essential element for mobile consumers as they watch movies and TV shows. Audio quality on tablets and smartphones is a purchase consideration for more than 70 percent of smartphone owners in these countries. In some countries, there is plenty of opportunity to improve sound experiences on mobile devices—in South Korea, for example, only 30 percent of consumers reported satisfaction with the audio quality of their mobile entertainment.

“More than ever, consumers are spending more time watching content on their mobile devices,” said John Barrett, Research Director, Parks Associates. “Sound quality is important to them—especially those watching full-length movies and TV shows.”
